This is a list of the programs that I have (and like) installed on my computer, along with plugins, important preferences, and hacks.
I decided to make this list during my most recent reinstallation of Windows. I realized part way through that I had learned about a lot of neat programs and customizations over the course of regular Windows use, and that I couldn't remember all of them anymore. Not only that, but I can be really picky about how I like stuff to work, and some of the customizations I had wanted took a fair bit of effort to find solutions. I didn't want to go through the process I was currently going through (of having to find all these programs, preferences, and hacks) all over again. Oh, also, I wanted a nice catalog of my (fairly successful, IMHO) adoption of opensource replacements/improvements for as much of my software as possible. I'm at the point now where basically the only non-opensource or non-free thing that I run is Windows XP. (Yes, I do know what I have to do. I'm just hesitant about doing it. But I will, one day... Fear not.)
Some aspects of this catalogue are merely notes ore thoughts to myself, such as the KEEP? tags, or the NOTE: sections. However, if you come accross a question that I pose to myself in my notes, feel free to send me an answer via email(see next Creator/License/Stuff).
This site is a perpetual work in progress (as long as people keep making/improving good software). I'm going to try my hardest not to put up unfinished pages, with the exception of my hacks/preferences for particular programs, since I still don't know the depth with which I want to document this, in addition to not having the idea to list those things until after I had already made most of this site. Its hard for me to find the motivation to go back and document something after the fact.... I prefer to document it during the fact, or perhaps right after the fact.

"PLUGIN" indicates that the method is an external program or extension that is added onto a program to get the desired behavior, and can most-likely be non-destructively removed.
"HACK" indicates that the method is a semi- to totally-permanent modification of either the program or Windows to achieve the desired behavior, either with a program or script by someone else, or just by fiddling by me.
"(discontinued)" indicates that the program is no longer being worked on or supported, for whatever reason (and that I might want to find an active replacement).
"(??keep?)" indicates that I'm not certain if I should keep this program installed, due mainly to the fact that I never/hardly ever find myself using it, or because I'm fairly certain there's a program out there that will better suit my needs.
